In a recent interview with Financial Times, Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded to allegations of an Indian assassination plot in the US targeting Khalistani leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.

PM Modi stated that India would investigate any evidence provided but emphasized the resilience of US-India ties. The alleged plot involves Nikhil Gupta, charged with murder-for-hire, accused of planning to kill Pannun in New York City.

PM Modi expressed India’s concern about overseas extremist groups and emphasized the commitment to the rule of law. Despite concerns about diplomatic relations, PM Modi highlighted bipartisan support for a strong partnership between the two countries.

The Indian government had set up a committee to investigate the US allegations. The incident follows earlier tensions, including Canada’s investigation into Indian involvement in the killing of Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia.
